Men’s Action Committee

in Groups and Organizations

The Men’s Action Committee (MAC), a men’s “social and service” committee of the GEAR Foundation, formed in 1982. The Men’s Action Committee was formed “for the purpose of getting gay men and women into social action.” MAC held monthly meetings at the GEAR Foundation’s LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland and sponsored a variety of group social outings open to LBGT+ community members. MAC’s monthly meetings were “the place to find out [what was] going on in town and [who was] going” to various social events, and meeting attendees planned “what they [were] going to do as a group and as individuals.” MAC’s meetings typically concluded in a group potluck-style dinner.
