Adonis Theatre

in Businesses and Stores

The Adonis Male Movie Theater, an all-male adult movie theater, opened at 1273 West 9th Street in 1975. The Adonis Theater advertised itself as “Cleveland’s only gay male movie theater.” Inside, patrons were able to view and purchase gay adult videos, films, and books. A fire forced the Adonis Theater to temporarily close in the winter of 1975. The Adonis reopened in May 1976 following renovations, including the addition of a community bulletin board and a snack bar. The Adonis Theater closed permanently in 1977.
