Wilde Oscar, a “New Orleans-style” gay disco, opened at 2140 Payne Avenue in 1979. At the time of its opening, Wilde Oscar was “among the largest” gay discos in Cleveland and “featured “boasted a large seating capacity as well as an expansive dance floor.” Wilde Oscar’s dance floor was flanked by a light show featuring “beacon lights, pin-spots, and a mirror ball.” Wilde Oscar hosted live entertainment throughout the week. Tuesday nights were specifically dedicated to “various gay organizations for special events.” Wilde Oscar closed in 1981. The bar later reopened as Another Place.
